Benjy says...

Hi Rock of Agers,

When one sits back and thinks about it, 40 years on the road, playing night after night, recording album after album and still retaining the enthusiasm and spirit of rock and roll deserves more than medals! Along with the Stones, The Who, Black Sabbath and the like, Status Quo are true rock survivors. Last Thursday night's special showcased just how many classic rock hits the band have written over the past 4 decades and although they may have peaked creatively a long time ago their new album "The Party Ain't Over Yet" shows they can still crank a irresistible 12 bar boogie tune better than most!....Check this album out as well as their career spanning retrospective "XS All Areas" ... Next week's special will be prog-rock-metallists Dream Theatre, a band that are fast becoming one of my favourite post 90's outfits. I will be joined in the studio by CD Wherehouse's Clayton Arendse - a self confessed Theatre addict, fan and musician (funny how you always find musos working in music stores?) ......................

As covered on the show last Thursday there are a couple of rock news snippets on the right side bar.

If you are looking for some blistering, blazing and fret melting electric blues in Durban this week then check out Dan Patlansky live. See right side bar for gig info.

Thats all for now, I'm off up the Cape coast this weekend for a bit of R&R with the Beatles 'Apple' biography, my iPod and the new Abstract Truth reissue .... catch you same time on Thursday...

Yours in the spirit of true rock

Then Now

Benjy Mudie was inducted into the South African Rock Hall Of Fame on 14th August 2002. Of Scottish origin, Mudie started out in the music industry working in record shops. He later became the A&R man for WEA records, signing such luminaries as Lesley Rae Dowling, Baxtop and Falling Mirror. He has ventured briefly into the realms of songwriting, getting co-writing credit for Little Sister's song 'You Got My Heart', but it is mainly for his running of record labels, notably Tusk and more recently Fresh and Retro Fresh that he is honoured. With these labels he has tirelessly dedicated himself to putting South African music out there, showing an unshaking belief in the quality of SA music.
