JUST JINGER

SUGAR(MAN) AND (JINGER) SPICE
Just Jinger at the Walkabout in Shepherd's Bush 25 February 2003

Just Jinger have been around long enough for one to be forgiven for thinking of them as Old Spice. However, one of the big strengths of this band has been their dynamic live shows and tonight was no exception. The small stage at the Walkabout did seem to restrict the band a little, but not enough to detract.

The band mixed new material with old favourites, the former being warmly welcomed while the latter received enthusiastic responses. 'Sugarman' with its lengthened cosmic jam bit showed off the group's prowess with their instruments while 'Like You Madly' had the crowd jumping madly and roaring their appreciation.

However, one of the biggest cheers of the night went up when Art told the crowd about their deal with Capitol, showing how important the success of a group is to their fans. There was also the traditional and exciting drumming display that has become a trademark of a Just Jinger show, and, for me, was the highlight of the show.

Having made it through the show, those who wanted a copy of the limited edition CD on sale had to contend with what could almost be described as Jingermania as people jostled and pushed to get near the band who were signing copies of the CD.
