1999

The 'On the Run' album started to make inroads and we received responses from various avenues. The first really positive response came from "The South African Rock Digest". This free, subscription e-mag was founded by Brian Currin in January 1999. Brian, who bases himself in Cape Town, is a huge fan of SA Rock music and you can find out more about the SA Rock Digest here.

Brian was handed a CD and liked what he heard. He gave it to "Sugar" Segerman from the Amuzine website. The two of them reviewed the CD and published the review on the Rock Digest and on the Amuzine website. Brian then decided to design the "Off the Edge" website. A number of snippets of songs are also available to be downloaded in MP3 format.

I have, in the meantime met with Brian and Steve (Sugar) and filled them in with what we are currently working on.

The Rock Digest has reached a lot of people based all over the world and one of them was Leigh Barrett, A DJ from Oregon, USA. A number of CDs were sent to her and we found ourselves being playlisted on KRVM. The response from Oregon has been very favourable.

5FM I received a telephone call from Brian telling me that a 5FM DJ was also interested in the CD. Leon Economides contacted me and we set up a meeting where I gave him a copy of the CD. He liked what he heard and the next thing I knew was that we were being played on the Dinosaur Days show on 5FM. Leon later organised that we would do an interview live on air with Phil Wright and himself.

The interview went very well and the interest generated led to the sale of more CDs. Listen to an MP3 extract of the radio interview here....

SA Rock Digest #16, 12th May 1999

Judy Marshall and Peter Hanmer (two-thirds of Off The Edge) were interviewed by Phil Wright and Leon Economides on 5FM on Sunday night between 10.30 and 11pm. Phil played 2 tracks from the 'On The Run' CD; 'The Critics' and 'If There Is Love'.

Rafe Levine is featuring 'On The Run' as the "Essential CD of the Week" on SAFM this week. Rafe is playing tracks on his PM Jive show every day from Monday to Friday between 3 and 5pm.

In November 1999 'On The Run' was reviewed on "Strutter'zine", a Dutch-based online Melodic Rock magazine. Read the review here.
